We hurried outside for as many photos as he would stand and I think a couple turned out pretty good!
Then we were off on the short drive to his new preschool! Baby and I got to join this morning (since it was a BiG day!) but from now on Daddy gets to take him to school! You will notice there are ZERO pictures of the actual time at the school. Well, let's just say that it was not the picture perfect send off I had hoped for! :( There were people everywhere! I had been warned of this, but man. This school was like mama-dada-gma-gpa-razzi central! As soon as we got in line ~yes there was a line to get in~ I could see his nerves starting to come out. He was pacing, he was hanging, he was eating his fingers.....UT-Oh! RED FLAG! Thankfully, right then his cousins pulled in! WheW! This will be okay after all. They hugged, they squealed they took pictures!
They unlocked the doors and in we went! It is a long walk down two halls to his room and today it was through lots and lots of people. Between the chaos and the paparazzi everywhere I could tell that shit was about to hit the fan! He said his good byes to his cousins and auntie and uncle and then went into his room to hang up his book bag. He started playing a little so I thought it was our perfect time to R-U-N out of the door! I said goodbye, gave a kiss and tried to make a beeline to the door. Then I saw his face, he just realized what was happening and started SCREAMING! Not just a cry, no, a SCREAM of all SCREAMS! I knew this was a possibility, especially since I spent many a years pulling crying 5 year olds off their mamas, but I was hoping that mine wouldn't be one! No luck. :( So I quickly told Daddy and Baby to wait outside and I stood in the hall where I could hear him but couldn't be seen. He was screaming and crying and KICKING THE DOOR!!??!!? O-M-G! Who was this child? Thankfully there was another mom in the hallway who was kind enough to report to me what he was doing since she could see the door. She went back in to get her husband and when she came out she said that Martino was done crying and was playing with the toys. Hallelujah!! Thank goodness, because for a minute I seriously considered sitting in the hallway for two hours! Dumb idea! Baby and I went back home, exhausted, and I scratched all my ideas of what I was going to do with this time that he was in school. Maybe next week!
We hurried to go pick him up at the exact time and I was able to peek in the door to see what he was doing....he looked like a preschooler! YAY! He did have a good day! We went to lunch, his choice was chips & dips and a cheese quesadilla! (No complaints here!) And before he had his nap he FINALLY told me about his day!
Me: Did you have a snack at school this morning?
M: The kids ate fruit loops and chocolate cows milk but I no drink that stuff mommy. (Note to self: write the teacher a note)
Me: What book did your teacher read?
M: The kitty was in a car with white shoes.
Me: You mean, Pete the Cat?
M: Ya, Pete the Cat got hims new white shoes and drove a car with a guitar.
He did have a good day! His retelling melted my heart! It told me that he DID stop crying and he WAS involved. I am looking forward to the rest of a really great first year of preschool!
